Win Sectional Championships
George Messenger, left, wrestling coach at Oakfield-Alabama Central School, presents shields emblematic of section wrestling championships to Gerald Scroger, center and Ellis Newton of the Oakfield-Alabama team. Scroger won the title in 133-pound class and Newton was co-winner in the unlimited class. A varsity wrestler for four years, Scroger had a 44-8-1 record while Newton had a 23-7 mark for three years of wrestling. SOURCE: The Batavia Daily News, April 23, 1954.
