Orchard Park Wins WNY Wrestle Title; Amherst Takes 2nd
Orchard Park won the second annual Western New York Interscholastic Conference Wrestling Championships on March 15, 1952. The OP team was awarded the Ed Don George Trophy. (Ed Don George attended Buffalo's Canisius High School in the 1920s. He placed 4th in freestyle wrestling at the 1928 Olympic Games and went on to become a world champion professional wrestler. He's buried in St. Nicholas Cemetery in his birthplace of North Java, NY.) NOTE: This article says Worth won at 120, but the Buffalo Evening News reported that Sappelt upset Worth, 3 to 1, in the finals.
